NATION : Ex-Thornburgh Top Aide Pleads Innocent in Drug-Related Case

SCRANTON, Pa. — A former top aide to U.S. Atty. Gen. Dick Thornburgh pleaded innocent today to drug-related charges that resulted from a federal investigation of alleged drug use by public officials.
Henry Barr, who worked for Thornburgh at the Justice Department and in Harrisburg when Thornburgh was Pennsylvania’s governor, is apparently the highest-ranking present or former federal official to face drug charges, said Gordon Zubrod, the prosecutor in charge of the case.
Barr pleaded innocent to four counts during a brief hearing before U.S. District Judge Edwin Kosik.
Barr, 47, of suburban Harrisburg, is charged with one count of cocaine possession, two counts of lying to federal officials about drug use and one count of conspiracy.
