Barbara Camp, an athletic administrator at Southern Methodist, has been hired as UC Irvine’s assistant athletic director/student affairs, the university announced Tuesday.
Camp replaces Kaia Hedlund, who accepted a job at the University of Hawaii this summer. Camp will be responsible for overseeing admissions, eligibility, academic advising, tutorial programs and NCAA and Big West Conference compliance.
“I am very excited to join the staff at UCI and have been most impressed with the quality of the athletic and academic programs, the coaches and the university itself,” Camp said. “The people I have met have all been super. I am looking forward to working with everyone on campus.”
Camp, who will start the job Friday, spent 21 years at SMU in various positions, the most recent being associate athletic director for intercollegiate programs from 1987-90.
