A federal court jury has convicted two employees of a Los Angeles defense contractor of criminal conspiracy, bribery and receipt of stolen government documents in connection with a scheme that occurred at a U.S. Naval base on Diego Garcia island in the Indian Ocean.
The jury convicted Larry Hulberg, 41, and Gordon Brymer, 59, employees of C-E Operations & Maintenance Services, of giving $800 in cash and promising a job to a Navy employee in exchange for sensitive Navy documents the employee stole and provided to the two Los Angeles men in February, 1988, when they were at the base preparing a bid for a $150-million Navy contract.
Assistant U.S. Atty. Steven G. Madison said Hulberg and Brymer face maximum sentences of 30 years and a $750,000 fine when they are sentenced on Nov. 5.
