Mt. Carmel High School named Steve Edwards its new baseball coach and Ron Lorenz its softball coach Wednesday.
Edwards assisted at Poway High last year and is getting his first chance to run a varsity baseball team. He takes over for Sam Blalock, who won 298 games over 16 years at Mt. Carmel but left to begin the program at Rancho Bernardo. Edwards will continue to teach at Poway and will act as a walk-on coach. He is familiar with the Sundevil program, having coached Mt. Carmel’s junior varsity team for five years before going to Poway in 1990. He will be assisted by Dave Gibbs, formerly Mt. Carmel’s freshman baseball coach.
Lorenz was the assistant softball coach to Joe Radovoch for the past six years.
