War IN BRIEF : TURKEY : 400 Iraqis Swell Total of Refugees

More than 400 Iraqis poured into Turkey, the biggest one-day total since the Persian Gulf War began, the government reported in Ankara. At least 146 deserting soldiers were among the 407 arrivals, more than double the average number of daily arrivals in the previous two weeks. The government has refused to let reporters meet with the refugees and deserters. They are being housed in refugee camps and hotels guarded by security forces. Most are in the eastern cities of Sirnak and Tatvan and in Siirt, where a military camp has been converted to hold deserters.
