F ollowing are The Times’ recommendations for today’s schedule of the American Film Institute Los Angeles International Film Festival, with commentary by the film reviewing staff. Information: (213) 466-1767. “EIGHT TAELS OF GOLD”(Hong Kong; Mabel Cheung; AFI Mark Goodson, 9 p.m.). A gregarious New York cabbie (action star Sammo Hung) returns, after 16 years, to his native village and unrequited love. A winner from Hong Kong: Warm-hearted, good-natured, beautifully photographed, this comedy offers a bemused, affectionate view of life in rural China today. “Blobermouth” (Monica 4-Plex, 9 p.m.), with the L.A. Connection riffing over the 1958 “Blob,” is “less fun than the original” (Kevin Thomas)
