South El Monte : Annexation Weighed

The City Council decided last week to consider annexing 6.5 acres of county land in the Whittier Narrows area, near the intersection of Santa Anita Avenue and the Pomona Freeway.
Councilman Art Olmos said the council should consider annexation to control development on the vacant land next to the Ramada Suites motor hotel, 1089 Santa Anita Ave.
The Army Corps of Engineers controlled the land until 1987, when it was taken over by the county Parks & Recreation Department.
Deputy City Manager Steve Henley said it would be “premature to specify the types of development being considered at this time.”
