PLATFORM : An Unfair Image

Getting married is frightening enough without having to explain, “No, he’s one of the good guys” and “No, he does not condone the beating of Rodney King.”
My fiance comes home from work and instead of being proud of what he does, he is now disillusioned and discouraged.
He has driven by a schoolyard and been verbally attacked by high school students screaming obscenities and calling him a racist. These kids have clearly been influenced by the media; but they do not know Patrick, and it is doubtful that they know anyone in the Police Department.
The saddest element of this ordeal is that now every white male police officer is assumed to be racist. We, as a community, must arrive at a way to punish those who are at fault while maintaining the public’s respect for the department.
