Sensitive on Sabbath
The fine article by P.K. Lerner, “Going by the Book,” that appeared in the Valley View section June 27 portrayed in a very understanding and sensitive way, not only the inconveniences and hardships a weekly 25-hour rest period presents to an individual and to a family, but more importantly, the joys, pleasures and spiritual benefits as well.
To the Jew, the Sabbath represents not only a commemoration of G-d’s creation of the universe, but also His ongoing providential guardianship. We recognize the glory and strength, the light and splendor of the gift of the Sabbath to Israel.
The observance of the day of rest is the unique hallmark of a Jew.
