WORLD IN BRIEF : TURKEY : Islamic Body Rejects Overtures by Iraq

The world Muslim community rebuffed attempts by Iraq for reconciliation, keeping political pressure on Baghdad a year after its invasion of Kuwait. The 45-member Organization of the Islamic Conference, meeting in Istanbul, assailed Iraq for failing to respond fully to all U.N. Security Council resolutions. The resolution also accused Iraq of delaying the release of Kuwaiti prisoners. The delegates also endorsed moves toward an Arab-Israeli peace conference sponsored by the United States and the Soviet Union and planned for October.
