MOORPARK : School to Be Ready for Sept. 4 Opening

Moorpark’s new Arroyo West School will be ready for students when classes begin Sept. 4, officials said Wednesday.
The school’s starting date depended on contract negotiations between the teachers union and the school district. An unresolved issue involves the school calendar, although the teachers and district agreed that teachers will return Sept. 3, Supt. Thomas Duffy said.
Arroyo West School, 4117 Countryhill Road, will provide instruction for third through fifth grades. It was built primarily to ease crowding at Flory School, said Lyle Richardson, director of facilities.
Last year, Flory had 874 students. Flory is expected to have 601 students this year and Arroyo West has a projected enrollment of 584, Richardson said.
Previously, Arroyo West’s third-grade students would have attended Mountain Meadows elementary school. Mountain Meadows will now have only kindergarten through second grade.
The boundaries for Arroyo West are Moorpark Avenue on the east, Grimes Canyon Road on the west, and north and south to the city limits, Richardson said.
