World IN BRIEF : AUSTRALIA : Extortionist Using Personal Products

Investigators found lethal potassium cyanide in samples of toothpaste, soap and other personal and household products sent by an extortionist to Colgate-Palmolive’s office in Sydney, police said. The extortionist had threatened to distribute more than 100 packs of contaminated products throughout Australia, police spokesman Bruce Gibson said. Gibson declined to detail the extortionist’s demands. It appeared that none of the contaminated products reached store shelves.
