Duarte : Schoolhouse to Be Eatery
The city’s oldest building, once a schoolhouse, will be transformed into a restaurant by next summer under a development agreement unanimously approved by the City Council on Tuesday.
The schoolhouse, at the northwest corner of Buena Vista Street and Central Avenue, will be sold to the Old Spaghetti Factory International Inc. for $877,450. The restaurant is expected to generate about $20,000 in annual sales tax.
The bungalow-style structure was built in 1909 and was a schoolhouse until the early 1950s, said Ed Cox, director of community development. It was later the administrative office for the Duarte Unified School District. It has been vacant since May, 1989.
