Hypocrisy of Speech Codes
Well thank you, Alan Dershowitz, for exposing another hypocrisy in today’s society. Good God! I’m fed up with being told what to say, what to think, who to accept and who to shun, by people who are socially or politically “correct,” only to find out that the “rules” don’t apply to everyone!
I remember when it was OK to say and think things in our country, no matter how “stupid” those words or thoughts were!
If the way to rid the country of prejudice and ignorance is to control thought and speech, let’s be consistent and remove Jeffries from his position as professor and chairman of African-American studies. If, on the other hand, we strive to be a nation of intelligent, educated, free people, then let’s call off the witch hunt of recent years, where we look for bigotry and prejudice everywhere, and do as Dershowitz suggests--require that all points of view, no matter how offensive, be debated on their merits and demerits. This used to be the American way.
