Rolling Hills Resident Wins at Open

Kimberly Po of Rolling Hills will play Anne Smith today in a second-round match at the U.S. Open tennis tournament in New York.
Po advanced Tuesday with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Elise Burgin.
Smith, 22, is ranked 53rd in the Virginia Slims rankings and Po is 180th.
Lindsay Davenport of Palos Verdes, who earned a wild-card spot in the draw after winning the U.S. Tennis Assn.’s girls’ 18-and-under national championship earlier this month, was ousted by Debbie Graham, 6-3, 6-2, in a first-round match Tuesday.
In first-round doubles matches Wednesday, Jim Pugh of Palos Verdes and Rick Leach defeated Gilad Bloom and Doug Flach, 6-3, 6-7 (2-7), 6-2; Davenport and Nicole London of Rolling Hills Estates lost to Germany’s Eva Pfaff and Claudia Porwik, 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 6-1, and Cammy MacGregor, a 1987 Palos Verdes High graduate, and Penny Mager lost to Amy Frazier and Maya Kidowaki, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 7-5.
