Summers on War
Harry G. Summers Jr.’s article “From Demons to Doe-Eyed Innocents” (Commentary, Sept. 23) is as full of holes as a slice of Swiss cheese.
Summers says, “. . . War is not a game. But you’d never know that from some media reporting.” If war is not a game, and there are no rules, then what was George Bush whining about when Saddam Hussein put his American captives on television? We were supposed to be outraged by this terrible breach of the Geneva Convention; but, burying soldiers alive in trenches, well, that’s war.
