Edwards Ends Holdout, Reaches Agreement With the Clippers

James Edwards, 7-foot-1 center, reached an agreement with the Clippers late Tuesday night, ending his five-day holdout.
Edwards, who is entering the final year of his contract, is believed to have received a one-year option as an extension. In addition, a $233,000 portion of the current contract, originally scheduled to be paid in six years, will be awarded to Edwards this season. The 15-year veteran will join the team for its charter flight to Chicago Thursday.
Edwards was acquired Aug. 13 from the Detroit Pistons for reserve guard Jeff Martin and a second-round draft pick.
Just after the trade, Edwards’ agent, Reggie Turner, said that the center had already signed a three-year, $5-million contract with the Italian team, Knorr Bologna. However, Edwards also had one year remaining on his NBA contract with the Pistons.
Edwards did have his physical in Los Angeles last Thursday, but decided not to show for training camp. The fine for missing camp was set at $300 a day.
