COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : OCC Hands Irvine Valley Its First Soccer Loss

Darin Courter scored midway through the second half to give Orange Coast College a 1-0 victory over previously undefeated Irvine Valley in an Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer game Tuesday at Orange Coast.
Courter took a long pass from Ali Missadeghi, shook off a defender and scored from about 30 feet for the Pirates (5-3-5, 2-0-1 in the conference). With fewer than 10 minutes to play, Irvine Valley missed its best chance to tie the score when Khalid Hosny’s open-net shot hit the crossbar. Irvine Valley is 7-1-2, 2-1.
In other Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer games:
Rancho Santiago 3, Cypress 1--Gus Plasencia scored twice for host Rancho Santiago (6-1-1, 1-1).
In Orange Empire Conference women’s soccer:
Cypress 8, Long Beach 2--Laurie Wilson had three goals and Noelle Rost and Jodi Myers added two each for visiting Cypress (5-0-1, 2-0-1).
In Orange Empire Conference men’s water polo:
Palomar 12, Saddleback 9--Saddleback fell to 12-11, 0-2 in conference, despite a game-high six goals by Edwin Carrera.
In nonconference water polo:
Golden West 23, Cal State Long Beach JV 5--Corey Delahunt and Jay Soles each had four goals for host Golden West (14-0).
