Rich Manning made a 15-foot jump shot with one second left to give Washington a 62-60 victory over No. 7 Arizona Thursday night in a Pacific 10 Conference game at Seattle.
Manning, a 6-foot-10 junior center, scored 16 points for the Huskies (8-4, 2-0 in the Pac-10), who beat Arizona in Seattle for the second consecutive season.
Ed Stokes scored 19 points for Arizona (10-3, 1-2), which had a 71-game home court winning streak broken by UCLA last Saturday.
Washington, a preseason pick to finish ninth in the Pac-10, led, 39-27, at halftime and was ahead, 43-28, early in the second half.
Washington had a 60-57 lead after Tim Caviezel made a free throw for the Huskies with 24 seconds left.
Arizona tied the score, 60-60, on Chris Mills’ three-point basket with 11 seconds remaining.
Washington inbounded the ball and worked it up the court to Manning, who squared up to the basket before making the game-winning shot.
Freshman Mark Pope had 10 rebounds and four blocks for Washington.
The Huskies outrebounded Arizona, 38-27.
Arizona State 95, Washington State 86--Jamal Faulkner scored a season-high 31 points and had a season-high 15 rebounds to lead the Sun Devils to victory at Pullman, Wash.
Arizona State (10-5, 1-2) used a zone defense that forced Washington State to attack from the perimeter and caused numerous turnovers.
Washington State (12-3, 0-2) trailed by as many as 23 points midway through the second half, but the Cougars pulled to within nine in the final minute on three-point baskets by Dale Reed and Bennie Seltzer.
Arizona State made seven of 11 three-point shots.
Washington State made only seven of 24 three-point attempts.
Stevin Smith scored 22 points for Arizona State.
Neil Derrick led Washington State with 23 points.
