GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Avocado League
San Marcos 47, San Pasqual 42--Tammy Hinrichs led San Marcos (6-7, 3-1) with a season-high 30 points. Deanna Hadley led San Pasqual (9-6, 2-2) with 18.
Metro Conference
Bonita Vista 64, Sweetwater 35--Sophomore Jill Burningham (20 points, seven rebounds) and senior Mary Johenk (10 points, eight rebounds) paced ninth-ranked Bonita Vista (12-2, 5-0), and they only played in the first and third quarters. Sonja Simonsen added eight points for the Barons.
Jessica Juarez led Sweetwater with 14 points.
Hilltop 57, Chula Vista 47--Stacy Heaps scored 21 points and Jennifer Tobbs had 20 as Hilltop improved to 9-4, 4-1. Chula Vista, which has been in foul trouble the past two games, had 39 fouls called on the Spartans against Hilltop. Allison Hines led Chula Vista (5-9, 3-2) with 17 points. Teammate Shalanda Fuller contributed 11.
Palomar League
Fallbrook 44, Mt. Carmel 36--Fallbrook never trailed and employed a tough man-to-man defense to stymie second-ranked Mt. Carmel (8-3, 3-1).
The Warriors shut down Mt. Carmel’s leading scorers: Jennifer Alley, Angie Cooper and Kris Grazzini. Michelle O’Connor’s nine points were the most scored by a Sundevil.
For Fallbrook (7-6, 2-2), Marcia Jeffries scored a game-high 17 points and Jessica Paris added 14. Stacey Fordice grabbed 16 rebounds and Andrea Strategos had another 11 for the Warriors. Fallbrook led at the half, 18-11.
Poway 58, Orange Glen 26--No. 1 Poway jumped out to a 16-2 lead and coasted. Alison Brady led Poway (13-2, 4-0) with 18 points and nine rebounds. Orange Glen fell to 8-5, 3-1.
San Dieguito 68, Vista 44--Three Mustangs were in double figures as San Dieguito (7-6, 1-3) won its first league game: Celeste Taylor (22) and her sister Kathy (15) combined for more than half of the Mustangs points and Amy delaPena contributed 16 more.
DeAngela Minter scored a game-high 27 points for Vista (5-9, 0-4).
Coastal League
Francis Parker 41, La Jolla Country Day 30--Juli Cheskaty’s 18 points lifted Francis Parker to the victory. Teammate Tory Rodger contributed 8 points for Francis Parker (9-4), who led, 20-16, at the half.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
City Western League
La Jolla 3, University City 2--Sophomore Julie Maund recorded her first hat trick of the season to give La Jolla (5-3-1, 1-0) a 3-0 lead. University City scored both its goals in the final 11 minutes.
