Sand save: Scott Gibson, whose one-under-par 71 at the Southern Section team championship Monday helped Huntington Beach to a second-place finish, had only two bogeys in his round. One of the bogeys, on the fifth hole at Palm Springs’ Canyon Country Club, could have been worse, but Gibson holed a shot out of a greenside sand trap.
“The guys I was playing with didn’t like it too much,” Gibson said.
Seven Orange County water polo players are competing for a U.S. national youth water polo team in the Mexican Olympic Festival in Mexico City.
Jeremy Braxton-Brown (Capistrano Valley), Alan Herrmann (Dana Hills), Tim Hornig (San Clemente), Lenny Malo (Villa Park), Brent Palluck (Foothill), Todd Pelkey (San Clemente) and Jake Yokota (Capistrano Valley) are among the 26 players on the two U.S. teams. San Clemente High Coach Steve Yancey is coaching one of the teams. The tournament began Wednesday and continues through Sunday.
