Familiar Sounds: Kenneth (Babyface) Edmonds of the writing-producing team L.A. Reid & Babyface was proclaimed songwriter of the year at BMI’s 40th annual Pop Awards Dinner at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Wednesday evening. The performing rights organization recognized the songs most performed on American radio and television from the fourth quarter of 1990 through the third quarter of 1991. “Love Takes Time,” Mariah Carey’s collaboration with Ben Margulies, was the single most performed song of the period.
