Vitya Vronsky Babin, who with her late husband formed the classical duo piano team of Vronsky and Babin, has died in Cleveland, where she most recently headed the Cleveland Institute of Music’s piano department. She was 82 when she died Sunday in her Shaker Heights apartment after what an institute spokesman said was a long illness.
A native of the Russian Crimea and a graduate of the Kiev Conservatory, she and Victor Babin met when both were students of Artur Schnabel in Berlin.
They married in 1933 and made their American debut in 1937. At Babin’s death in 1972 they had given more than 1,300 concerts in North America, several in the 1940s and 1950s in Los Angeles at the Wilshire Ebell Theater and Philharmonic Auditorium.
