AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Power Surge by Martin Lifts Newbury Oaks

Trent Martin slammed his fifth home run in as many games Thursday and Newbury Oaks rallied from a two-run deficit to defeat Ventura, 9-3, in the first round of the Gene Waid Memorial tournament at Camarillo High.
Newbury Oaks (13-1) scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead for good en route to its 13th victory in a row.
In the fourth, Ryan Kritscher ripped a grand slam to spark the five-run rally. It was the fourth homer for Kritscher, who entered the game batting .651. Martin, who has six home runs, and catcher Robert Fick each had three hits for Newbury Oaks.
Left-hander Adam West (5-1) gave up two earned runs and six hits over six innings, struck out seven and walked one.
In another Gene Waid tournament opener:
Camarillo B 16, Westlake 3--Matt Buttell and Colby Keener had three-run doubles to highlight an 11-run first inning at Camarillo High. Keener also had a run-scoring triple and run-scoring single.
DISTRICT 20
Encino Crespi 13, Valley South 2--Sam Clemons threw a three-hitter to lead Encino Crespi (10-6) to its seventh win in a row. Javier Avila had three hits.
