Thousand Oaks Bowler 2nd in Senior Event

John Handegard of Thousand Oaks, the 1991 Senior bowler of the year, lost to Gene Stus of Allen Park, Mich., 225-216, in the title game of the $95,000 Pacific Cal Bowl Senior Open on Thursday in Lakewood.

Handegard, who was top-seeded in the five-player stepladder final, led after Stus missed the No. 2 pin on a spare try in the seventh frame. But Handegard opened in the ninth after leaving the 7-10 split, and Stus posted strikes in the eighth, ninth and 10th.
