WESTMINSTER — Three armed men robbed a jewelry store in the Westminster Mall on Thursday and fled with merchandise of undetermined value, police said.
No one was injured, but a store clerk was taken to a hospital after the 10:15 a.m. robbery because she was too distraught to talk to police, said Officer Robin Kapp, a Police Department spokesman.
Police went to the mall after receiving a report of a robbery at Dekara Designs. Two clerks were the only people in the store at the time of the incident.
One gunman confronted one clerk at a front display counter, while a second went into the back of the store and confronted the female clerk with a gun. Both robbers demanded jewels before fleeing from the mall on foot, police said.
The robbers were described as black and in their mid-20s. One was wearing a sweat shirt with a hood, a second wore a black jacket. There was no description of the third. Investigators did not know if Thursday’s robbery was connected to a previous jewelry heist at the mall, on the night of Dec. 7, Sgt. Mike Mittelstaedt said. In the earlier case, four masked, gun-wielding robbers ordered customers and employees at Best Products Co. to lie on the floor before escaping with about $100,000 in valuables, police said.
