‘Roseanne’ Writers Work Hard, Not Scared

Just this season, I began watching “Roseanne” on reruns, and I am entranced. I do not come from precisely the same background as the Conners, but I completely relate to their trials, tribulations and many laughs! Somebody out there in America must feel similarly, since the show is in its second season at No. 1 in the ratings.
Such is one reason I was so offended by “ ‘Feeding the Monster.’ ” As expected, the bulk of the article bashed the Arnolds and their managerial style. If you are a meticulous reader, as I am, you may have noticed the one tiny paragraph acknowledging that Roseanne Arnold’s “creativity and talent” are the driving force behind the show’s success. Then it was back to bashing.
I am coming to believe that Arnold gets her bad press because she’s a bright, talented and successful woman who dares to speak her mind to the “powers that be.”
Well, I applaud Arnold’s creativity and her show. The ratings prove that many Americans do so, as well. Maybe the press ought to focus a little more on why the show is such a success.
