Sam’s on the Job

For the last several seasons I have been a subscriber to the Colony Studio Theatre and have been a volunteer in doing the theater’s publicity. On many occasions, I have invited entertainment critics Gary Franklin and David Sheehan to productions I felt were noteworthy and deserved the public’s attention.

Unfortunately, I have never succeeded in their even acknowledging our invitations. However, Sam Rubin (“That’s Entertainment, Too,” Dec. 24) has always made an honest attempt to visit us for a look-see. On the three occasions he did, he gave our productions thoughtful reviews, and he graciously featured a visiting British playwright (whose sold-out Colony American premiere subsequently won two Drama-Logue awards) on his KTLA morning report.

Rubin represents entertainment reporting in its most complete form, by including--rather than excluding--the humble yet important 99-seat theater scene in L.A.
