Faiths Unite to Pray for Peace in Balkans

NEW YORK — Religious leaders of varied faiths in Europe and the United States have united in prayer for peace in the battle-racked regions of former Yugoslavia.
At the United Nations and at the main mosque in Zagreb in Croatia, a day of prayer was observed Dec. 23 as set by Muslim, Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic leaders at a summit meeting last month.
President-elect Bill Clinton, in a message to the U.N. meeting, said, “I believe the sustained influence of religious leaders can make a difference in this tragedy.”
