SOUTHERN SECTION BOYS’ BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS : Mater Dei Loses a Coin Toss, Must Play Semifinal on Road

Top-seeded Mater Dei lost a coin toss and will travel to Arcadia High School Tuesday night for its semifinal game against Pasadena in the Southern Section Division I-A boys’ basketball playoffs.
Huntington Beach, seeded third in the division, will wait until Wednesday for its semifinal game. The Oilers will meet the winner of Monday night’s Thousand Oaks-Irvine quarterfinal game at Christ College Irvine.
Semifinal games in nine of the section’s 10 divisions are scheduled Tuesday. Corona del Mar will play host to Playa del Rey St. Bernard in the Division IV-AA championship Friday night at Estancia High. Both teams are guaranteed berths in the Southern California Regionals beginning March 9.
Dean Crowley, Southern Section associate commissioner, also announced the schedules for the championship doubleheaders at the Los Angeles Sports Arena, the Bren Center and Cal Poly Pomona. The AA games in each division will be the opening game with the A games following.
Tuesday’s semifinal matchups involving Orange County schools, with all games beginning at 7:30 p.m.:
Division I-AA
Capistrano Valley (20-9) vs. Long Beach Jordan (19-6) at Long Beach City College
Division I-A
Mater Dei (29-1) vs. Pasadena (22-6) at Arcadia HS
Division II-A
Artesia (24-3) vs. Kennedy (26-3) at Los Alamitos HS
Division III-AA
Inglewood Morningside (25-4) vs. Santa Margarita (23-4) at Capistrano Valley HS
Division V-AA
Brethren Christian (21-7) vs. Brentwood (22-5) at North Hollywood Harvard Westlake
