A drive to furnish the new senior center being built at Moulton Parkway and Aliso Creek Road is scheduled to receive a boost this week when the Laguna Niguel Lions Club will present a check for $1,000 to the center’s building fund.
The donation is scheduled to be presented to representatives of the Laguna Niguel Senior Citizens Club’s fund-raising committee at a Lions Club luncheon Wednesday.
Roger Lance, the seniors club treasurer, said the donation helps bring the fund-raising total to just under $50,000. The club’s goal is $250,000.
Lance said about $16,000 has been collected in the drive, which started last fall, and an additional $30,000 has been pledged. “Hopefully, we would have our goal reached by June,” Lance said.
Construction of the 14,060-square-foot facility began in August, and completion is scheduled for June. The $3.4-million construction cost is being paid by the city’s Community Services District under an agreement that the seniors club will raise the $250,000 needed to furnish it.
