LAUSANNE, Switzerland — There will be no baseball Dream Team at the Atlanta Olympics.
The International Baseball Assn. Sunday narrowly rejected a proposal that would have allowed professional baseball players to represent their countries in official IBA events, including the Olympics.
In a vote taken at a special meeting, 48 members voted to reword the eligibility requirements and 28 opposed the change.
A two-thirds majority, or 51 of the 76 countries represented, would have been needed to pass the motion.
