LONG BEACH : Port Director Receives 5% Salary Increase

Long Beach harbor commissioners have approved a 5% pay raise for the port’s chief administrator, making him the second-highest-paid city official.

The five-member commission voted 4-1 last week to raise Executive Director Steven R. Dillenbeck’s salary from $131,841 to $138,393.

With the increase, Dillenbeck ranks only behind City Manager James C. Hankla, who earns $155,721 a year. Dillenbeck, 54, has headed the port of Long Beach since 1991. He has been with the agency since 1987.

Even with the pay increase, Dillenbeck makes less than some other port directors on the West Coast, including Los Angeles, a port spokeswoman said. Commissioners gave Dillenbeck a 3% pay raise in July, 1993.
