BURBANK : Gunman Sought in Gang Shooting Case
- Share via
Burbank police are searching for an unknown gunman who shouted gang slogans and fired several shots at a 19-year-old man, inflicting minor injuries.
The victim, a North Hollywood resident, was visiting a girl in Burbank accompanied by a male friend. He was standing behind her home in the 500 block of East Providencia Street at about 9 p.m. Tuesday. A car stopped in the alley near the men and the gunman got out and opened fire, police said.
Though he was not directly hit, bullet fragments ricocheted off the ground and lodged in the 19-year-old’s arms and legs, Burbank Police Sgt. Scott Wilson said. The victim was treated at a local hospital and released.
Police would not disclose how many shots were fired or what type of handgun was used. They also withheld the name of the victim for his protection, saying they believe he and his friend are not affiliated with a gang.
“The guy who was shot and his companion were squeaky clean, not even a traffic ticket,” Wilson said. “(But) we do consider this gang-related, because the shooter did yell out gang slogans.”
Police said the victim and his friend did not know the gunman, and the motive for the shooting was not known.
The suspect was described as a teen-ager with a shaved head. The car he was riding in was described as a late 1980s black compact.
