BUENA PARK : Tree to Memorialize Community Activist

A tree will grow in Boisseranc Park Memorial Grove to honor community volunteer Dorothy S. Maurer.
The tree will be planted Saturday, in keeping with an annual tradition since 1984 that remembers a deceased community activist. Maurer will be honored for her 13,000 hours of service to Buena Park’s senior citizens.
“She would go out early in the morning and pick up day-old bread and take it to the seniors,” recalled William Maurer, her husband. “She had a lot of plaques from the state and the city and the county for her special efforts.”
Dorothy Maurer was president of the Senior Center’s transportation, luncheon and counseling program for more than eight years and was active in the Emblem Club, according to a resolution adopted by the City Council Monday.
The city expects about 100 people to attend the park ceremony at 1 p.m., when a white alder will be planted. Maurer’s name will be added to a plaque honoring past volunteers.
Her three children, Marilyn Hanson of Buena Park, Micheal Maurer of Placentia and Mary Kraft of Pine Grove, will join friends and dignitaries for the ceremony.
Dorothy Maurer died in 1989 at age 73.
