Zeanah’s Conduct Like Joe McCarthy
Joe McCarthy is alive and well and is sitting on the City Council in Thousand Oaks. I was shocked to see the articles in the various papers regarding Councilwoman Zeanah’s complaint to the Sheriff’s Department about a member of the public’s remark at a council meeting.
I was in attendance at the meeting where Susan Falwell spoke on Jan. 3. Ms. Falwell was not violent, abusive or confrontational. In fact, when she made her remark that “accidents do occur,” she even mentioned that it was not meant to sound threatening, but the council needed to have a plan in place for replacing lost council members.
This meeting had a number of speakers who indicated this was the first time they were speaking at a council meeting. Mrs. Zeanah’s paranoid response just deters public comment. Zeanah feels free to label people whose views don’t agree with hers as being special-interest groups.
Maybe I am part of a special-interest group. I am a citizen of Thousand Oaks who has lived here far longer than Eloise Zeanah. I care very much about my community and I dislike the animosity and backbiting that she has brought to council meetings. I think that there are many other citizens in my “special-interest group.” Citizens concerned with where we are heading and the apparent disregard for freedom of speech.
