Delta Rocket Chosen by Satellite Venture: Loral Corp. selected McDonnell Douglas’ Delta II rocket to launch the initial four satellites in the proposed Globalstar telecommunications system, in a contract valued at $50 million. The system, developed by Loral and Qualcomm Inc., ultimately would have 48 satellites to provide worldwide mobile communications and is scheduled to start operating in 1998. McDonnell’s aerospace group in Huntington Beach builds the Delta rocket, and its subcontractors include Rockwell International’s Rocketdyne unit in Canoga Park and GenCorp Inc.’s Aerojet division in Sacramento.
