A Garden Grove man who drove into a police patrol car and demolished it Monday was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, authorities said.
Officer Deronn Scott, 31, was on patrol at 12:45 a.m., driving east on Yorktown Avenue, when he slowed and turned on his right blinker, preparing to turn onto Whitesands Drive, police said. A car driven by William Simmons, 48, rammed into him from behind at 40 m.p.h., according to the California Highway Patrol, which investigated the accident.
Scott was treated at a nearby hospital for pain in his back and neck and was released.
Simmons, who also complained of general pain, was booked into the Orange County Jail.
