World IN BRIEF : FRANCE : 5 Million Public Workers Start Strike

The nation prepared for chaos and its conservative government braced for what may be the biggest strike since 1986 as more than 5 million public sector workers began a general walkout to fight a pay freeze. Vital functions were expected to be reduced or suspended for more than a day. The walkout marks the first major labor challenge to Prime Minister Alain Juppe.
