Plant Has Made Lake a Hot Spot

Robert Taylor, concessionaire at Green Valley Lake, has learned a thing or two about Alpers trout the past few days.
“You say Alpers and people come out of the woodwork,” Taylor said of the trophy-sized rainbows raised by Tim Alpers along the Owens River in the Eastern Sierra.
Green Valley Lake, near Running Springs in the San Bernardino Mountains, became the Southland’s first lake to receive a load Saturday afternoon.
On Sunday, there was hardly any room to fish because the small lake was so crowded.
So popular are the big rainbows that people have been sneaking onto the grounds at night. Taylor said he hasn’t been able to sleep because he has been busy chasing the trespassers out.
“I guess I knew this was coming,” he said.
