Two new City Council members will take the oath of office tonight, replacing incumbents defeated in the Nov. 5 election.
Jim Dahl and Lois R. Berg will be sworn in, having garnered the most votes last month. Stepping down will be veteran members Candace Haggard and Scott Diehl, who between them have 20 years of council experience.
Dahl and Berg will join Mayor Steve Apodaca, Patrick M. Ahle and Joseph Anderson on the five-member board.
Dahl, 53, said he is eager to begin work on city matters, saying the council will face many important issues in the coming months, including a proposal for a toll road that would run through San Clemente.
“I think the citizens will have a lot more input than they had before,” Dahl said of the new council.
After new members are seated, the council will choose a mayor and mayor pro tem for the coming year. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 100 Avenida Presidio. Information: (714) 361-8200.
