El Camino Real Wins in a Pinch

Freshman Carlos Gallo’s run-scoring pinch single in the sixth inning gave El Camino Real High a 5-4 victory and season sweep of Kennedy in a Northwest Valley Conference baseball game Thursday at El Camino Real.
Jesus Gallo gave up two singles, struck out five and walked one in 3 2/3 innings of relief for the Conquistadores (9-6, 7-1 in conference play), who have won three games in three days.
Kurt Birkins (6-0) relieved Gallo in the sixth with two runners on and the score tied, 4-4, and shut down the Golden Cougars.
David Hernandez led off the second with a home run for Kennedy (15-5, 5-3), which built a 4-0 lead.
Chatsworth 3, Granada Hills 0--Tom Morefield had two hits for the Chancellors in a Northwest Valley Conference victory at Granada Hills.
Ismael Marin (4-1) pitched a three-hitter and struck out three for Chatsworth (18-2, 7-1).
Taft 4, San Fernando 3--Jeff Spector scattered 10 hits and got plenty of help from his brothers for the Toreadors (6-10, 3-4) in the Northwest Valley Conference game at San Fernando.
Mitch Spector had two doubles and two RBIs and Jason Spector, Jeff’s twin, had two hits and an RBI.
Sylmar 5, Van Nuys 3--Ivan Hernandez shut down a seventh-inning rally with two strikeouts and the Spartans won a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Van Nuys.
Eddie Camacho hit a two-run single that put Sylmar (14-3, 8-0) ahead in the seventh, 4-3.
Michael Kim had three hits and an RBI for Van Nuys (7-9-1, 2-4-1), which allowed 11 walks.
North Hollywood 3, Monroe 0--Ismael Rangsiyawong had two hits and the Huskies (11-7, 7-0) scored three runs on two hits, two walks and two errors in the third inning of a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Monroe.
Victor Banuelos (2-5) pitched a six-hitter with five strikeouts for Monroe (7-9-1, 2-6).
Chaminade 5, San Jose Leland 4--Ryan Soroka scored on a double steal with two out in the seventh inning to give the Eagles a victory in the West Coast Classic in San Jose.
Chaminade (9-8-1) was outhit, 10-5. Jordan Hoff had three hits and Bryan Palmer had two.
Claremont 4, Simi Valley 3--Jesse Kozlowski had two hits and Scott Vermette pitched a six-hitter for the Pioneers (7-6), who lost in the Chino Hills tournament.
Vermette (1-2), who struck out one and walked one, surrendered a solo home run in the sixth inning to give Claremont the victory.
St. Ignatius 1, Hueneme 0--Lee Lewis pitched an eight-hitter but the Vikings (10-5) lost in the San Luis Obispo tournament.
Lee (2-4) struck out three and gave up a run-scoring single to Scott Sternberg in the seventh.
Harvard-Westlake 6, Campbell Hall 4--Matt Thayer hit a two-run home run and Adam Siegel hit a run-scoring triple in a six-run first inning for the Wolverines (9-7) at Franklin Field.
Chad Garson (3-0) allowed two unearned runs in four innings on three hits, striking out five.
Montclair Prep 14, Murphy 4--Tomohiro Kawasumi pitched a two-hitter and struck out 10 for Montclair Prep (8-3) at Mission Hills Senior Little League Field in a game called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.
Camarillo 8, Channel Islands 1--Joe Yingling hit a two-run double for the Scorpions (14-3, 4-1) in a Marmonte League victory at Camarillo.
Andy Alstot (5-1) pitched a five-hitter for Camarillo, striking out eight.
Cleveland 6, Birmingham 5--Justin Savitt hit a grand slam for the Cavaliers (11-4, 4-3) in a Northwest Valley Conference victory at Birmingham.
Joey Rubin had three hits for Birmingham (9-11, 0-8), which lost its eighth one-run game.
