Malaysia to Draft Guides for Hindus

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — National guidelines for Hindu temples will be drafted to prevent friction between Hindus and Muslims.
Samy Vellu, president of the Malaysia Indian Congress party and public works minister, said he will meet with more than 200 Hindu leaders to set up a systematic approach to temple-building.
The meeting follows a late March brawl when more than 3,000 Muslims stormed toward a Hindu temple, swinging wooden planks and hurling stones.
The Muslims were rankled by Hindu rites at the temple, saying too much bell-ringing disrupted Muslim prayers. The Hindu temple has since been moved to another site.
