Skeleton Found Near Golf Course

A golf course employee found a partly buried skeleton Thursday in a wooded field near the Balboa and Encino Golf Course in the 16000 block of Burbank Boulevard, but authorities said they do not suspect foul play.
“It is believed this person is a transient,” said Scott Carrier, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County coroner. “It looks as though the body’s been there for a very long time.”
Investigators initially estimated the bones were the remains of a Latino or white man about 40 to 50 years old, but Carrier said it would take at least a week for forensic anthropologists to make a complete evaluation.
Until the body can be identified, coroner’s officials will refer to the body as an “undetermined John Doe,” Carrier said.
