Youth Group Plans Festival for Mothers
A La Colonia youth group learning leadership and organizational skills is sponsoring a carnival-style Mother’s Day festival today to honor the community’s women.
The event will be held from noon to 6 p.m. at El Centrito De La Colonia, 804 Cooper Road, Oxnard.
Members of the youth group are making computer-generated cards and poems, and crafting frames that they will present to their mothers onstage.
Games, food, music, dancing, story time and children’s theater are also planned.
A United Way member agency sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph Ministerial Services, El Centrito De La Colonia was formed to help the neighborhood’s children prepare to become productive members of the community.
The program includes educational, recreational, cultural and counseling programs for La Colonia children and their families.
