Beavers’ Grand Slam Helps Woodbridge Upset Eagles

Kevin Beavers’ grand slam capped a seven-run second inning as host Woodbridge upset second-ranked Santa Margarita, 8-3, in a Sea View League baseball game Friday.
Woodbridge (17-6, 10-3) trails first-place Santa Margarita (19-5, 11-2) by a game with two left.
Beavers finished with two hits and drove in five runs and Zach Foster, who also had two hits, pitched a five-hitter for his fourth victory of the season.
In another Sea View League game:
Corona del Mar 10, El Toro 3--Tim Thurman hit a two-run single in the fifth and a three-run homer in the sixth for for Corona del Mar (9-12, 3-10).
In the Century League:
No. 4 Canyon 15, No. 6 Foothill 8--Brian Wahlbrink homered and drove in three runs for Canyon (20-4, 12-1), which clinched a tie for the league title. Brett Chandler hit a grand slam during a 13-run third inning for host Canyon.
Villa Park 7, El Modena 6--Charlie Saponara hit a home run in the sixth inning and Sean Swan had three hits for visiting Villa Park (9-13, 4-8).
Orange 3, Santa Ana Valley 2 (8)--Derald Deason’s home run in the eighth won it for Orange.
In the Empire League:
El Dorado 15, Katella 3 (5 innings, mercy)--C.J. Rice hit a grand slam in the third for visiting El Dorado (16-8, 10-3).
Kennedy 11, Loara 7--Outfielder Jordan Reed was three for three with three runs scored and three RBIs for Kennedy (14-10, 7-6).
Cypress 10, Century 1--Jason Pushckor had a bases-loaded triple in a seven-run fifth for Cypress (15-9, 8-5).
In the Freeway League:
Sunny Hills 5, Troy 1--Jared Bruce was two for four for Sunny Hills (12-12, 7-6).
Fullerton 3, Buena Park 2--Jeff Cody (10-2) pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts for Fullerton.
In the Garden Grove League:
No. 1 La Quinta 10, Rancho Alamitos 0--Jason Garcia pitched five scoreless innings for La Quinta (24-1, 10-0) and Willie Keller hit a second-inning grand slam.
Bolsa Grande 8, Santiago 7 (8)--Mike Johnstone homered in the top of the eighth for visiting Bolsa Grande (3-18, 2-9). Santiago freshman Ryan Pilkington hit a three-run home run in the sixth and a grand slam in the seventh for Santiago.
Pacifica 4, Garden Grove 3--Chris Murray’s bases-loaded single off the left-field fence scored Brian Barre with the game-winning run for Pacifica (16-8, 8-2).
In the Golden West League:
Servite 11, Tustin 9--Joey Schaefer had two hits and three RBIs and earned his first victory, pitching the final two innings for Servite (18-5-1, 11-1).
In the Olympic League:
Orange Lutheran 11, Whittier Christian 10--Mike Mattivi had three hits, scored two runs and drove in two for Orange Lutheran.
In the Sea View League:
Newport Harbor 11, Irvine 10--Charlie Waite hit a three-run home run in the third for Newport Harbor.
In the South Coast League:
No. 3 Mater Dei 4, Trabuco Hills 1--Kris Hernandez had two hits and an RBI as Mater Dei (19-4, 11-2) clinched at least a share of the league title.
Capistrano Valley 10, San Clemente 3 (9)--Wes Brown hit a grand slam in a seven-run ninth for Capistrano Valley (9-14, 5-8). Ryan Cheo went the distance with nine strikeouts and also homered for Capistrano Valley.
