The speech and debate team at Orange Coast College has reason to celebrate after winning its third consecutive tournament championship over the weekend.
The OCC Pirates captured the team title, competing against 14 two- and four-year schools, with 106 points at the Lancer-Watson Invitational Tournament at Pasadena City College. Mount San Antonio College finished second with 73.
“This was an excellent performance against some very strong competition,” said Norm Fricker, OCC’s head forensics coach. OCC grabbed 32 awards, including eight first-place trophies. Azusa Pacific University finished third with 42 points.
OCC’s Kelly Walters of Santa Ana was named “Speaker of the Tournament.”
