Sharon Moreno
Santa Ana, Sophomore
Cross-Country
Moreno is running just for fun and winning as well. She already has a degree in psychology from UC Irvine, where she was on the track team but ran only one year of cross-country. She had met some of the Santa Ana runners while running and had so much fun with them she joined the team for a year. Moreno won the Irvine Invitational Saturday, covering the 3.2-mile course in 20 minutes 16 seconds.
Soccer
Wendy Matis
* Cypress, freshman. Scored a goal in each game as Cypress, the top-ranked team in the state, won twice.

John Romm
Orange Coast, Sophomore
Football
Romm, from Estancia High, was a defense end at OCC last season but has moved to inside linebacker this season. Romm was one of several OCC defenders that made big plays Saturday as the Pirates beat Riverside, 21-14, in overtime. His biggest play came with about a minute left in regulation. Riverside tried a field goal from 27 yards but Romm blocked it. He had blocked another field goal try earlier in the game.
Soccer
Kenny Takaki
* Fullerton, freshman. He scored three goals as the Hornets beat Riverside, 7-3.
