Pincay’s Win Makes Him Track Leader

DEL MAR — Jockey Laffit Pincay Jr. surpassed Bill Shoemaker on one front and inched closer to him on another Wednesday.
When Pincay, 51, directed 5-1 shot Lady Cadet to victory in the sixth race, it made him the winningest rider in Del Mar history. Pincay, who tied Shoemaker on Monday when Sea Crest won the fourth race, has 890 wins in 23 seasons at this track. Shoemaker rode 889 winners in 26 seasons.
Lady Cadet’s win also moved Pincay, second on the all-time list behind Shoemaker, within 200 of his longtime friend. He as 8,633 wins; Shoemaker has 8,833.
