One Marine died and another was injured Friday when their truck overturned on a dirt road at Camp Pendleton, military authorities said.
The names of the Marines were not released pending notification of relatives.
Camp Pendleton authorities issued a short prepared statement three hours after the 3:20 p.m. accident. Staff Sgt. Robert Hall said he could not release any more information until the relatives were notified and military investigators determined what caused the accident.
According to the statement, the truck, a logistics vehicle system, overturned while negotiating a curve on a dirt road on the base.
The truck, which pulls trailers, is used to transport large quantities of supplies, heavy equipment, armored vehicles and ammunition.
The injured Marine was transported to Scripps Hospital in La Jolla and was listed in good condition, military authorities reported.
